Hi Families,
At OCCLC, we often talk about being a "partnership" and a family. Today, we want to reach out to you in that spirit to share a personal update regarding our CEO, Darrick.
The Journey So Far
About seven months ago, Darrick was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a cancer of the immune system. While "cancer" is a heavy word to read, we want to share the incredible report we have seen so far: The doctors are highly encouraged and God is moving.
Over the last four months, Darrick’s initial treatments have been remarkably successful. His plasma cancer cell count has gone from 50% down to 0% based on current measurements. This is the best possible response he could have at this stage!
The Next Milestone: This Week
To ensure the most thorough and lasting recovery, Darrick is entering a critical second phase of treatment to eradicate the cancer cells at the deepest microscopic level.
• Monday: Darrick is undergoing a high-dose chemotherapy day.
• Tuesday: He will undergo his Stem Cell Transplant, where his healthy cells are placed back into his body to begin the work of recovery.
• The Next Two Weeks: Darrick will be at the hospital every day for the next 14 days for intensive monitoring to ensure his body responds perfectly to the transplant.
How You Can Partner With Us
OCCLC would not be here without Darrick’s vision and leadership. As he walks through these key milestones, we invite our incredible community of parents and students to join us in prayer for:
1. The Transplant (Tuesday): Pray for a seamless procedure and that his body accepts the stem cells with no reactions.
2. Protection from Infection: Because his immune system is very vulnerable right now, please pray for a "hedge of protection" over his health during his daily hospital visits.
3. Strength & Peace: Pray for Darrick and his family as he navigates the fatigue of this process, and for total eradication of all cancer cells.
Darrick’s outlook is incredibly promising, and he is tackling this with the same faith and excellence he brings to our learning centers every day.
Thank you for being the village that surrounds our leaders. We will continue to keep you updated on his progress as he moves toward full health.
